New sim no service Homtom HT17 Pro

Unlocked Homtom HT17 Pro (running android 6 marshmallow). Received Plusnet sim, received welcome email, popped sim in, no service. Plusnet sim works fine in Doogee handset (not mine belongs to a mate). Both o2 and giffgaff sims work in Homtom handset. Totally confused. Performed factory reset on Homtom, tried plusnet sim, still no service. Tried settings > mobile networks > access point names but unavailable (greyed out). The sim is recognised but not accepted i.e. number not showing in phone details.
Any ideas.

Sorry to hear you're having some service issues, Mutti.
Have you removed any old profiles from the handset?

@Mutti I had a problem with that handset and gave up (no data connection possible although worked as a phone)
Now on O2 which worked out of the box with no fiddling

Michael - have no idea how to do that. Do you mean delete accounts such as google etc. Bear in mind I have done a factory reset which wipes everything (or so I thought). Thanks.

@Oldjim Thanks for heads up. Have ordered giffgaff sim today in the hope it works which piggybacks off O2 I believe. Fingers crossed. Cheers.
