EE signal great , Plusnet poor

We recently switched to PlusNet mobile from EE. Where we live EE was great, however since moving to Plusnet the signal strength is so weak! More than half of our calls get directed direct to voice mail too! Any tips welcomed?

If you know someone very local to yourself on EE, ask them.
Could possibly be a fault on your local mast.
Is it bad everywhere? Or just one location?

Plusnet don't have access to all the bands that EE has.  If your local mast is opperating on the 800MHz band (i think it is), then that could possibly account for that.

Indeed. The 800MHz band (as used by VoLTE) isn't available to MVNOs

So plusnet do not have the benefit of ee network in full? I am guessing a return to ee is needed. Plusnet have asked me to try a new sim first

No MVNO does. EE keep access to 800MHz to their selves.

Re: EE signal great , Plusnet poor

@DaveyH  So the new much vaunted EE signal improvement roll-out may not help our non-existent 4G signal & 1 bar 2G signal at home if it's based on 800 MHz.

I do think Plusnet should make potential customers aware of this as it could well be the most crucial factor in deciding whether to switch.

Fortunately we can make calls to mobiles as part of our landline package & we can also receive sms texts as part of the package but it would cost to send an sms text via our landline so it's not an issue for us.

After a few months of trying with plusnet, I am moving to giff gaff. The signal is just too weak compared with EE.

Re: EE signal great , Plusnet poor

Given that I don't need much data and only make a few calls I went with O2Classic PAYG and the 4G signal is excellent mostly with the occasional drop to 3G

Note that with GiffGaff there is apparently a speed restriction on 4G compared to straight O 2

Mrs and I both moved to Plusnet after many years with Giffgaff and find both signal strength and data speed are much better.

Much more data vs same-priced goodybags too.
