Re: EDGE connection only

Yes.  So far it seems to just be me affected.  I'm talking to people internally.

Re: EDGE connection only

A good idea me thinks (and a perk of the job!:))

Sounds stupid, but under Network and Settings, then Network mode, you have it set to either auto or 2G/3G/4G and not just 2G?

Re: EDGE connection only

I don't have that option.  I think you are referring to the screen that I've put in my screenshot on the first post?   The option is greyed out with only 2G showing.

Re: EDGE connection only

Yes, it sounds like be a setting issue, hence your image.

I'd of thought there must be a setting on the phone that my need adjusting....

(any of the guys in the office got a dual sim?)

I guess when you switch to your other sim, the image changes to 2G/3G/4G?

edit. What model phone is it?

Re: EDGE connection only

Yeah, with the other sim, it's not greyed out. You can press on it and it gives an options:

  • 4G(Preferred)/3G/2G
  • 3G(Preferred)/2G
  • 2G

Tbh, it feels like there is something wrong with the SIM, or with my account data on our side.   The sim is registering on the network and being being told it is only allowed 2G.  I know very little about mobile networks though!

Re: EDGE connection only

Fix

aaand I've fixed it!   If this ever happens to you, this worked for me.  This is fiddling worth phone settings, so do this at your OWN RISK and is definitely not supported by PN:

  • If you have multiple sims, disable all except the problematic one.
  • Go into the testing screen via typing the following in the *#*#4636#*#* into the dialler
  • Go into phone info
  • Scroll most of the way down until you see the buttons at the bottom.
  • Just above the button is a drop down to set the preferred network type. Select the right one from there (LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) worked for me)

The data connection should drop and it may connect at higher than EDGE now.  The option in settings is now not greyed out for me.

I do @DS, it was in the Spam filter and I've just released it.

Re: EDGE connection only

Although a bit late to this party there is another fix which works - or is at least worth a try.

This morning I was doing a bit of SIM testing to see whether the better signal I am getting with PN is down to the phone or the service.

Samsung A3>TescoMobile>poor signal

HTC 510>PN Mobile>better - about 2-3 bars

Can't afford both so one has to go.

Anyhoo - after using the Tesco SIM in my HTC I put PN sim back in and Mobile Data was E only.

Checked APN - seemed OK - reset to default - made no difference.

Tried old laptop trick - popped out battery, removed SIM - obviously an extra step -  then hold down power button for 60 seconds (a minute will do)

Put it all back together - took a few moments for date and time to come up correct, data now back to what it was.

May help, may not - worked for me.

Moral seems to be - don't fiddle with PN Mobile SIMS - mine is a pre-Xmas - glad to say all has worked fine, but haven't dared port numberUndecided
