Getting LOADS of Spam

Hmm what's happening?  This morning I'm getting loads and loads of really 'obvious' spam delivered straight to my inbox.
I thought this new system was supposed to put an end to all of that?
Anyone else in the same boat?

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Hi there,
You've got spam filtering switched on but it doesn't look like the back-end systems see it that way:
;; QUESTION SECTION:
;*******.plus.com.            IN      MX
;; ANSWER SECTION:
*******.plus.com.      86400  IN      MX      10 mx.core.plus.net.
*******.plus.com.      86400  IN      MX      20 mx.last.plus.net.

Your mail is pointing straight at our delivery servers (and therefore bypassing the IronPort boxes). I'm looking into this in more detail now and will let you know as soon as I've made a bit for progress...

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

I was also flooded with spam this morning, including some using my address as a spoof.... Is this what we can expect from the new spam filter?? the old one worked really well.  Sort it out please.

@AdamTheBass, looks like you're suffering from the same problem as worcsdave. This shouldn't be happening.

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

OK, here's what's happened...
We were running a batch script to remove customers' Postini entries. Turns out that this script was also inadvertently removing database entries for customers' spam filtering settings. This won't have resulted in any email getting lost but it will have let a load of spam through Sad
It affected about 25,000 domains (about 5%). We're going to delete the batch script so it doesn't run again and we've already re-populated the database entries for these customers. It should be fixed in an hour or two but it may take some time afterwards for DNS to do it's thing.
Sorry for the hassle.

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Thanks Bob,
I think I might be one affected - as I had a few spam messages today, whereas I have received very very little since being with PN - both on Postini and Ironport.

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Me Too.
Of the batch I got today there is one I would have reported under the old system.
Is there a way to report it or have we lost that?

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Me, too.
Had several dead-obvious ones through this morning.   Undecided
I've reported them using SquirrelMail.
These spam have been no-where near Ironport. And one of them doesn't even show up on SquirrelMail, which is really odd. How can spam reach my inbox without appearing on SqurrelMail?  Crazy

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Just had a reply from support against Ticket 27322625 at 3:15 today. Since my problem appears to be obviously against this thread, it would have been helpful for the CSC rep to have pointed me in this direction. Bob's post says this is fixed, hopefully that will prove true.
Looks like once again the forums are a better place to find out what is going on than through the Ticket route.

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

I'm not sure the CSC were fully aware of this thread, unfortunately they don't often get chance to read through the forums as much as they'd like.
Hopefully the fix Bob eluded to earlier should start to take effect as DNS updates so you start getting less spam through again.

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Hmmm still getting lots of very obvious SPAM here...  I wonder what's going on?  I thought that it would go back to usual levels (5 or 6 a day) rather than the current 8 or 9 an hour!  Can anyone help?

Re: Getting LOADS of Spam

Have you checked your spam settings in Manage My Mail? (spam protection ON, Edge Protection ON) If you have additional domains you need to check the settings for each one.
Also could you post the sanitised headers from a spam that's got through please.
