Email hardware consolidation

Morning all,
For those of you who missed the Service Status I posted yesterday evening.
Bit of a heads up that we've now started making live changes to the mail platform as part of the email consolidation work that was referenced in the IronPort blog I wrote some time ago.
The objective of the project is to reduce the hardware count for delivery of the customer email service. The proposed method to facilitate this out come is with virtualisation technology, specifically on the Sun hardware that provides the incoming mail component. Once virtualised, one of the environments will home the POP3 and IMAP service allowing for the removal of the hardware that provides this facility to the customers. This reduces the environmental and hardware costs as well as Increasing profitability of the service.
we have in total 40 physical machines that deal with received customer email. These are 22 sunmxcores (mail delivery) that deal with incoming email, and 18 mailc’s (mail collection) which home the POP3 and IMAP services.
Since December last year, and the introduction of Postini, the utilisation of the sunmxcore’s has dropped on average by 50% (even moreso with the introduction of IronPort). Resource requirements for the mailc’s is minimal, being limited by the availability of NFS throughput. Therefore, it has been proposed to merge the two functions onto a common hardware platform. Thus removing the 18 mailc’s, with a resultant reduction in running costs.
This change constitutes a physical change to the flow of email and because of this, those more familiar with our email platform can expect to see changes to the naming convention of some of the server names referenced in the headers of the emails you receive.
Only 3 of the 22 sunmxcore servers have been rebuilt at the time of writing but as time passes you can expect to see the flow of emails change from:
sending MTA > IronPort > mx.cores

to:
sending MTA > IronPort > in.mx

I've attached a network configuration diagram from our internal documents. Here's some example headers from an email that was sent to one of my accounts late last night:
