Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

A couple of weeks ago my friend had loads of emails as outlined in title. None were hers.
Contacted Plusnet who said to turn catchall off and they would abate but today she has had a load more.
Just checked webmail spam folder and there are two (Hotmail) in there marked Spam.
Why can Ironport catch two but not the majority of them?
Also, is there anything I can do to stop them?

absolutely nothing, the spam merchants are forging your address as the sender to a bad address and you get the bounced reject.

Re: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

Sounds like backscatter to me. The reason IronPort won't be identifying them as spam is because they will be genuine bounced messages where a spammer has sent a load of emails using your friend's email as the from address.
There's not a great deal you can do in these situations but stick it out. It tends to stop after a week or so.
