Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Hi @dave, if there's space I would very much like to be included also if possible Smiley

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Hi Dave,

I'd quite like to be added to the trial, if that's still possible (High Touch side of things)

Thanks

Caroline

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Would I also be able to join the trial?  I have a new FTTP connection and and older static IP address. My (non Plusnet) router uses OPNsense firmware which appears to support IPV6.

Going to pause applications there and add everyone above that's posted.

I've scheduled the change for 10pm on Thursday 23rd April so if you disconnect/reconnect Friday morning you should get IPv6 all being well. I'll post back when the change has been done to confirm.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

How do I get onto the High Touch side of the environment? I've got FTTP and I'm running my own IPV6 capable router but I have dynamic IP addressing.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

@Bogwitch As @dave has just said above, he is pausing applications, so won't be accepting any more at present.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Thanks John, I read that. I'm asking how I get onto the High Touch environment so I'm eligible to join the IPV6 trial as it appears I'm not eligible on the Low Touch environment.

Basically you can't. The high touch network is those with a static IP. Since Plusnet havent offered new static IPs for a while now, its not possible to get one if you dont already have one.

as it appears I'm not eligible on the Low Touch environment.

An in-house (staff) trial on the low touch network started a few weeks ago. Check back on this thread occasionally to see if/when that scope is widened.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

@Bogwitch

No one is particularly eligible - as Dave stated the list is now (again) closed, even for those on the high-touch network, which is as @MisterW states a function of a no longer available facility to anyone who does not already have it.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

If you happen to open any additional slots, I'd be interested in trialing...

Have just had FTTP installed and have a static IP, with a Unifi routing stack Smiley

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Dave, thank you for adding me to the trial. I am looking forward to having it. There is quite a bit to learn and now I have a need for the knowledge!

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Will the IPV6 IP addresses be static or may they change?

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Trial IP6 prefixes are fixed, and PlusNET are delivering a /56.

So you can expect the first aaaa:bbbb:cccc:dd to be the same and fixed.

Whether your individual devices always get the same IP6 address is a function of the router and the device's settings.

IP6 has a concept of auto-configuring based on a device's MAC address, but not all devices do this using the actual MAC address for privacy reasons.

IP6 also has a DHCP concept, but not all devices support this - notably most android devices.

Enjoy digging into this.

A big warning - please ensure that your IP6 firewalling is solid and default deny but with the required exceptions for path mtu discovery (at least) to work.  IP6 routers are required not to split tcp/ip packets and send you an icmp message telling you to do it.  It is (was) very common for misconfigured IP6 firewalls to drop these and the symptoms are long pauses and randomly failing connections.

IP6 gives every device a reachable and routed address by design and if you have misconfigured the IP6 firewall settings on your router to allow everything, you have a much bigger headache than was the case with IP4 using NAT as your devices can be directly attacked from the IP6 internet.

Re: IPv6 Trial Update

Thank you.  I am learning that IPV6 is much more complicated than IPV4.  The only home network devices that I have that support IPV6 are my Windows laptop and mobile phone. My TV and Dect phone base station dont.
