Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

Hi Dave,
If there's still any of those routers available I'd be more than happy to join the trial.
Cheers,

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

Just a quick update regarding the 582n routers - all stock has been sent out, but the firmware is available (upon request) for you to flash an existing 582n router. If you'd like to give this a go then feel free to drop me a pm, but you will need to join (or already have joined) the IPv6 trial first.
I can't guarantee that the firmware will go on any 582n, we've only had one test on a 582n not provided by me so we can't help if anything goes wrong and you end up with a bricked or non-compatible router so test at your own risk!

Do you plan to make any more of these available?
Alternatively when (if ever) would you expect this to become a router than you would normally ship?

Hi Ben,
I have finished with the trial so you can proceed to free up my login details and provide them to someone else, i have provided you with the feedback as requested in your previous email.
As to the trial router i am unsure as to what action i am to take, i am happy to return it or forward it to someone else wanting to trial IPv6
Kind Regards
Paul

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

@machare
We were asked by the supplier to run a limited trial which we have done. I don't envisage a wider scale trial run at the moment because the routers sent came from our stock and we need to leave some for every one else and not spend all the company's money Smiley
We ship 582n routers (IPv4)  upon request (costs, etc. apply)  and we are still deciding on our next router to replace the 585v8, however this is independent of our requirement to move to IPv6 at some point in the future.
@WelshPaul
I have no plans to ask for the router back, do with it what you will as long as it's not disposed of! Could you pm Dave to let him know which username you were allocated so that it can be given out to someone else? Ta.

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

I wouldn't mind a go on v6 if there are any logins going spare.
The WNR1000v3 that PN supplied with my FTTC has recently had a firmware update which now includes v6 support, so I'm sure some feedback on whether it actually works or not would come in handy, since I'm sure you've sent a lot of them out. Tongue

@reddev87,  it might be worth reading the following thread regarding the WNR1000v3 firmware update that includes IPv6 support  -

Yeah I did see that thread, but thankfully mines been perfectly fine, I've seen no issues at all so far.
Just wouldn't mind seeing if the new v6 functionality actually works.

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

IPV6 on the new wnr1000v3 firmware not working for me yet but still fiddling when I can - looking at the router the ppp interface is definitely not getting an ipv6 address but there do appear to be v6 versions of the pppd/dhcpc/dhcps running with config present (depending on which mode is set).  It does not seem to log anything at the moment so I need to try and get that working to get a better idea of what is going wrong.
If you can get hold of a login another set of eyes on it would be good though - it may just have something against me and be on strike. 😛

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

Ahh, I wasn't sure if anyone had tried it on the WNR1000 yet.
Well if I can get hold of a v6 test login, I'll try my luck with it too. Tongue

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

Well, just an update.
I have successfully got the WNR1000 working with a 6to4 tunnel from hurricane electric, it's not native v6, but at least 6to4 works.
Ran various tests with it, this is from ipv6-test.com:
Your internet connection is IPv6 and IPv4 capable
2002:51ae:**********
81.174***
Plusnet Technologies Ltd
Address type is: 6to4

No crashes, or any issues whatsoever, it seems to handle 6to4 traffic fine, all v6 sites are loading fine.

Re: IPv6 Trial - Space for a couple more

Hi.
As a newbie to this stuff, I've just got a Draytek 2850n dual band router which is capable of taking both fibre & ADSL connections, I've done a firmware upgrade which has given it IPv6 capability for the future.
Is there any advantage of IPv6 over the current IPv4, such as speed or reliability?
Can I take part in this trial? Never been a guinea pig before!  Grin
What settings do I need to adjust in the router & in Windows 7 x64?
TIA
