This is what BT say. I think it's the same for Plusnet
So some 0870 numbers are never free.
Quote Calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers may be free from your BT landline depending on which calling plan you're on. This doesn't include dial-up internet calls to ISPs, or calls to dial-through or calling card access numbers.
So some 0870 numbers are never free.

Which call plan are you on?
Depending upon when you signed up, if you are on LSR, there are no included call periods.

But surely Goatty2 would have noticed if all calls were being charged, Townman?

Go to the saynoto0870 website.
You may find an unadvertised 0800 number.

Yup, sometimes I wonder where I keep my brains! There again, he could be like me, I nearly never use my land line other than for calling 0870 & 0845 numbers, as I have more minutes than I can use on the mobile plan and those numbers cost a king's ransom on mobiles.
