all of a sudden no dial tone - broadband works

My phone has gone offline all of sudden today (no dial tone, but a feint clicking sound when receiver down button pressed).

I tried the test but it was inconclusive - try again later - same results

The broadband works ok

Customer service line seems to be closed for the day, any suggestions?

Try again in the morning when they are in again..

In the mean time, have you tried another phone, and have you tried from the test socket?

I only have one socket, I tried with another 2 telephones, same result, I did try with the face plate off the master socket and plugging the phone into the socket inside but with the same results...

You may be lucky and it will come back overnight, if not call PN CS when you can in the morning.

If there are any other phones on the line in the house check the handset is correctly seated.

Single phone plugged into the only (master) socket, tried several phones - wireless type and basic BT push button (no display) type - same result

Has your broadband slowed down at all?  I believe if one of the two wires fails I believe the internet will still work ( slower) and the landline wont work.

About the same as before, several speedtest results show average of 70Mbps download & 17Mbps upload

Then the fault is between the cabinet and the exchange, or at the exchange itself.

Nothing else you can do tonight.

I'm sorry to see your phone doesn't work. I can see you've raised a fault ticket online last night and this morning we've automatically reported a fault to Openreach. We've been given an estimated response time of by 23/07/21 17:00:00 for an engineer to go out and investigate further. 

Initial testing shows the problem looks to be at the exchange on what's known as BT Wholesale's side of MDF (Main Distribution Frame). Let us know how it goes over the next few days.
