Tree issue

We live in a rural area and our telephone supplier is PlusNet.  Due to trees growing, the wires for our land line is now very taunt and I fear in high winds the line will snap due to the movement of the branches.  The trees are not on any one's property and are part of a collection of trees along a stream.  They are not on any one's boundary either.
Who's responsibility is it to trim back the trees?  Thanks.

Re: Tree issue

Hi there,
I suspect in the first instance it'd be the local council, at least as far as enquiring goes. I'm not sure we'd be able to report it to Openreach unless there was actually some damage showing.
Hope that helps.

Re: Tree issue

Thanks I contacted Openreach and they will check on it.  Our neighbour has the same issue as she is also off the same pole.

Re: Tree issue

Might be worth asking her to report the same issue then from her address, as two reports on the same issue will have a greater impact Smiley
Sorry if you've done that already.

Re: Tree issue

Phoned Openreach and within an hour (gasp!) they came to visit.  As the tree is on public land the council need to sort it out.  After about 1/2 got through to council who said that they would arrange to Highways Agency to attend.  Meanwhile line is like a guitar string twanging away in the wind.  Grin

I wonder who they'll pass it on to ? Roll_eyes

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Tree issue

forestry commission, who will pass it on to the environment agency, who having nothing but enforcement inspectors will hum and ha about it, in the meantime BTOR will have been out and rerouted the line as part of a repair, then a sub sub sub contractor will tip up (the local council's handyman) with a chainsaw and get the job done, in the process he will also break the line again.......

We reported the problem to the council on the 3rd of September and nothing yet!

Re: Tree issue

the council wont do anything about it if you don't chase them,
you could if your able offer to lop the offending branch yourself but they will probably not allow it under there tree management plan ........there meant to use a specialist tree surgeon to prune them back but it depends where you live as to how on the ball the council are, if you reported the problem to your county council (there the ones with the money for it) they might do it within the year Smiley
