Interesting to note. The link suggests a move to EE. As far as I am aware, EE do not offer SoADSL.

It now also works for me, so the link of the link was broken and is now fixed - if via a brief flash of a 'this site is insecure' message.  That latter might still trip up some oversensitive browsers.

Re: The Big Switch Off

The original link supplied works for me - FireFox on Win7

Although we've finally heard for PN on the subject it appears to be misleading on several fronts.

First and foremost it says nothing about OpenReach terminating WLR contracts on 31 Dec 2025. It may be PN have secured a bulk exception to go past this date but your guess is as good as mine.

Leaving aside the Dec 2025 OpenReach are going to want the bulk of lines to be moved long before Jan 2027 so they can see where any problems may arise / have arisen and deal with then before the deadline.

So I would suggest PN customers do not have until Jan 2027 as implied in the missive.

As already mentioned it does not state PN are not suppling a VOIP service and as such, PN support will be unable to help on the subject.

It does not state that customers will (currently) lose any PN email addresses and other add ons they may have.

It does not state the customers can stay with PN and migrate their phone service to an independant VOIP supplier. Nor does it state how to do this.

It mentions nothing about VOIP not working during power cuts so customers may need to do something about this.

It does talk about care alarms so that's something.

Why this statement when transferring to EE
Quote

Can I keep my phone and telephone number?

And in most cases, you’ll be able to keep your current home phone number.

The line is only offering FTTP, but why would I want to pay more and get less until I am absolutely forced into it ?

Indeed, it reads far too much like 'Marketing' have taken over and see this as an opportunity to force as many people as possible over to the EE offering to increase their charges.

The sole concession to independent VOIP is "One way to get Digital Home Phone is ....." where clearly it should start with "No but one way ......... or you can arrange an independent digital voice service and stay with PlusNet"

My take on the BT-OR date 'difference' is that newly issued contracts (on and from 1 Jan 2026) for providers offering 'full copper ADSL/POTS' will simply include that 90 day notice period to end using 'full copper'.

That then will allow BT-OR to shut down 'full copper' on an exchange by exchange basis whenever they feel like it after giving the 90 days notice.  I do not read that any/all providers have to cease on all exchanges or need some waiver, hence the bit about "allow the services and assets to remain".

Re: The Big Switch Off

I am mindful that PN have not said anything directly addressing ADSL customers who do not have FTTP or FTTC to fall back on. From my own (self centred), research PN told me I would be required to find another supplier at some point.

Few ISPs now support ADSL with the obvious candidate being BT who were unclear on the subject, when we spoke, but would come at higher cost and the widely discussed customer service issues.

So much for being supported by PN

I get the feeling that PN are picking up the BT group  approach of dealing with a off message problem by ignoring it.

Re: The Big Switch Off

Hi @Kevin1342  and @Archer

Whilst we have yet to receive a concretre date, ADSL is soon to become obsolete as Openreach are gradually phasing out the copper network and transitioning the infrastructure over to SOGEA and FTTP. Plusnet are unable to offer landlines at this point as we have made the decision to offer broadband only to our customers neverthess other providers will be able to offer a VOIP digital landline which will ensure you can continue to use a landline in some capacity.

Should you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks

Lee

Re: The Big Switch Off

My point was that service on ADSL lines without FTTP or FTTC fallback will be ceased by PN. As confirmed by PN there is no route for a ADSL broadband service going forward when PSTN goes, as PN apparently can not support a broadband connection without a phone number attached.

Hence when PSTN goes customers like me will, according to PN, loose their broadband as well and have to find a broadband service elsewhere among the small number of ISPs offering ADSL.

There are areas where currently the only Openreach broadband product available is ADSL, and where there are no current plans to build FTTP - I live in one such area (I'm fortunate that there is one altnet, which is why I'm no longer a Plusnet customer).

As Plusnet have no intention of providing SoADSL the big question that has still not been answered is what will happen to the Plusnet ADSL customers when PSTN is withdrawn?

Such customers can't be transferred to EE since they also don't offer SoADSL.

Re: The Big Switch Off

Also, this sentence is not true.

Openreach are gradually phasing out the copper network and transitioning the infrastructure over to SOGEA.

SOGEA is provided over the copper (aluminium) network from the cabinet which will still be in place for many years after 2026/7
