Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

Purely out of interest - I was checking something in my Phone Book and see that it is dated 2010/11
Does this mean - pick any of the following
BT No longer issue a phone book
Plusnet won't pay the money to send me one
Plusnet systems don't allow it until specially requested

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

Now you come to mention that I got a new Yellow Pages just the other day, and I too haven't seen hide nor hair of a White Pages in many a year, and not just my time with Plusnet. We used to get a Thompson Local, but they were more of a catalog of adverts than a directory.

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

According to this http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/find/thephonebook/SupplyDeliveryFaqs.publisha# a free copy should be delivered annually ( by contractors! )

From the above link

Q. What if my telephone service is not provided by BT?
A. If your telephone service is not with BT and the annual delivery has finished, there will be a charge of £10 if you want to purchase a Phone Book from BT, alternatively you can contact your own service provider, who may be able to provide you with your local Phone Book free of charge.

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

I transferred my phone service to PN four or five years ago, and have been getting the BT phone book annually.
Just checked and the current one is 2014/2015 edition.

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

I get one every year despite not being a BT customer for many years. It goes straight in the recycling along with the Yellow pages etc.

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

@OJ, I suspect in my link it is referring to the 'royal' BT , that was my interpretation.
Anyway , found this which seems to confirm it's all Openreach supplied lines

It would be nice if Plusnet could actually comment

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

Plusnet did answer when you raised this in Feb 2013

Of course, BenT no longer works for PN but I'm assuming that the position hasn't changed  Wink

Actually , re-reading my link above it actually says
Quote
Every address in the UK is entitled to a free printed BT Phone Book for their local area.
which I presume means even addresses without phone lines!

Thanks for the links - which I couldn't remember

Our WLR3 provider has confirmed that we cannot order phone books via BT Openreach, with whom we place orders for telephone lines. To the best of my understanding, we are under no obligation to provide a free telephone book and our customers are free to order directly from BT, As such, we are not in breach of Ofcom GC 8.2*

We can order these for customers if they require one.
Customers are entitled to one free phone book for their area only. Any additional phone books will be charged at £10.00 each.

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

How do we do it - I assume (but am probably wrong) that there is something in the Home Phone Control Panel and I can't raise a ticket as it isn't an acceptable option

Re: Telephone Directory - or lack thereof

We got our phone book just a few weeks ago. But it shrunk a lot - much smaller than it used to be. Maybe lots of people these days are ex-directory
