Strange dial tone on phone line

The dial tone on our landline doesn't sound right - rather than the continous dial tone sound, ours has a pause in it (almost like it's beeping). Initially though this was because we had a voicemail, but this isn't the cause. We've been with Plusnet for a few weeks and I think our dial tone has always been like this - does anyone have any ideas as to what the cause of it could be? Not a  major issue, it's just starting to bug me!  Crazy

Hi andydp,
This does sound a bit strange. Can you make outgoing calls and do you receive incoming calls successfully?
I can take a look into your account if you want to send me a private message with your username?

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your private message! I've had a look on your account and also ran a line test and it's come back all fine.
Have you tried a different handset? If not then I'd recommend doing so and then let me know how that goes.

Sorry if you've already tried this but have you tried dialling 1571 to see if there is actually a message waiting ?

That would have been the first thing I would have asked if it wasn't for the above quote.

Dialling  *#001#  should indicate if any call features are active.

Re: Strange dial tone on phone line

Out of interest I tried that and got "The number you have dialled has not been recognised" on my PN phone line.
Is it possible that this code only applies to BT Retail services?

Re: Strange dial tone on phone line

If *#001# doesn't work, it's most likely you are connected to a System Y exchange...
