Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@jab1 - Yes, noted. 👍

I tried to post an image of the BT Openreach page that showed my Home phone results and screwed it up so I just deleted it. No worries.

I`m going to speak to my direct neighbor tomorrow as they have had Openreach in their garden over the past week and I suspect they too have made the switch to FF. So I`ll glean some information from him and ask who they were/are now with for their BB. My other neighbor is with Talk Talk and I don`t think they have made any changes as yet, but I`ll ask her what her plans are and give her some of the information I`ve learned incase she`s not aware or unsure. I`ll report back here once I know what`s going to happen to mine and what I decide.

@plusmouse

Use a tool like MS "Snipping Tool" to take a screen image of what you want to show and then save it to your PC.

You then have two choices. You can either add the image as an attachment or post it "in line" by clicking on the reply box icon that looks like a rectangle with a mountain in it.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

I`ll attempt to attach what BT wholesale are showing for my Telephone number below and hope it appears! It should give more clarity on what`s been discussed previously. I`ll post in two sections to show the whole report;

OR Availability.JPGOR page 2.JPG

I presume FTTP is my only option according to this?

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@plusmouse

FTTP does appear to be the only option - other than re-newing on an "as is" basis.

The PN Customer Options Team will confirm this if you phone them.

I see you've mastered "in line" posting with text afterwards.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

Thanks @bmc. I don`t know about me mastering how to attach images but I fumbled my way through as per your guidance! I`ve uploaded images before but just forgot the best way to do it.

OK, so my next move is to call PN and run this past the person I speak to and if it`s better to get FTTP now rather than end of 2025, I`ll choose that option.

One final question before I leave this alone until I know more myself if you or anyone else reading this can clarify. If someone signs up/switches to FTTP with PN and then that contract comes to an end after 24 months, I presume I could then just switch that FTTP to another provider? Silly question really because it`s probably a `yes, you can` reply. Because FTTP will no doubt be the go-to option for everybody anyway unless you happen to be with Virgin or other non-OR provider.

Thanks everyone for your advice on this, much appreciated.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@plusmouse

Changing ISP with FTTP is exactly the same as before. You contact the gaining provider to place the order and you do not tell PN. If you're happy to accept Early Termination Cahrges you can move any time you like.

The actual transfer of provider is a software change so no engineer visit required and I believe it can be done in as little as three days. So last couple of weeks of your current contract would be ideal. However, I would recommend speaking to your new ISP in advance to find out a provisional time scale.

As @bmc says changing  FTTP within the OR family of ISPs will simply be a software change and should only take a few days. If you move to an ISP using an AltNet then it will take longer as the install will involve connection to their network including the fitment of their ONT etc.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

OK, so I`ve just checked my emails and PN have sent me notification that my contract is coming to an end on October 14th and as per OFCOM rules, they have to offer me the best price they can. So those are, stick with my current package (Fibre 38/40 BB and line) but at a price of around £29.00 a month (so more than I`m paying now!) and with the 2 x £3.00 rises over the two year contract, or,

FTTP for £26.99p per month, which is the pricing showing in my accounts page as being the cheapest FTTP price at 74mbps. Which was the one I was going to go for anyway. However, I`d need an ONT box and an engineer visit to switch me over so here`s my dilemma.

I`ve got a payment pending for September/October for £32.75p which will be taken around about 18th of this month. My actual contract doesn`t end until 14th October, so I`m thinking, wait until this pending payment is taken and then hit the re-contract button for FTTP and hope that starts the ball rolling, but my gut feeling is to call PN anyway before doing this just to make sure it`s done correctly and I`m told what`s to happen and when?

PN have clarified in that email that FTTP is available to me, so all I need to do now is order it. The only worry I have is whether I`ll get it up and running before my current contract ends as I won`t know how busy the BT engineers are but if I`m given a date for a visit, I`ll just have to hope it all runs smoothly.

t`s just the timing of the thing mainly and the cross-over not overrunning too much.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@plusmouse

As the payment is pending, it will not make any difference whether you wait for it to go through or not. Once you got your new contract up and running, the subsequent bill will sort out any adjustment needed to deal with the different prices of the old and new contracts based on the date of switching. Your pending bill will include a few days at out of contract rates which you should avoid (by refund on the next bill) if you get an install date prior to 14 October. Plusnet might even be persuaded not to charge out of contract rates if you are signed up to the recontract but it is delayed beyond the 14th October for reasons outwith your control ( I think I recall having previously seen such mentioned on these forums)!

Having made your decision, you might as well get on with the move to FTTP which will get you a date for the install as soon as possible. You can either sign up on line or call Plusnet to get things rolling - the latter may allow you to negotiate a better deal!

Good luck!

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

Indeed, my thoughts exactly. Go for it and "argue the toss" afterwards if they make unreasonable charges.

Basically, if I re-contracted in such a situation I would expect any "extension" (non-overlap) period to be charge at the LOWER of the old and new contract rates. Simples.

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@plusmouse  Do you know the meaning of the word "procrastination" if not it means "delaying or postponing something that must be done".  I have to admit I am guilty of it. The thread has been going for nearly a month and the first few replies recommended that you should change to FTTP immediately. I understand you had questions to ask about the implications of the change but it seems you are overthinking everything, there are now over 70 posts in the thread and you have still not placed an order for FTTP, the latest point of discussion being the timing of the switch.

As others have said it doesn't matter when you switch, the billing will be sorted out.

I agree with @jgb  and @HPsauce, no need for any more delay, just do it.😁

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

@RealAleMadrid yes, I do overthink a lot! 😋 But I`ve also had my Mother to think about in my decision but that`s been settled now so I`m ready to jump. I actually read the speed of my FTTP offer wrongly. My email offer is for over 100mbps at £26.99p so much faster than the 74mbps in the list of deals on my accounts page, so al good. I`ll let you guys know when I`m live. 🙂

Re: SoGEA or Full Fibre?

Well that`s my order in for FTTP 145 for £26.99p a month as per my P/Net/OFCOM email offer. Engineer booked for 14th October which is the final day of my current contract so 🤞 that will go smoothly. Spoke to a lovely guy on the 0800 options team who ran me through the Plusnet email terms on my laptop screen while we agreed my contract.
