Try and waste as much of their time as possible , then they can't be scamming others.
If you're technically competent then try and string them along by 'playing dumb' and not actually doing anything OR if not then just ask them to hang on whilst you answer the door or something, just leave the phone off the hook for about 10 minutes , they'll sooon get bored!
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Very simple, ANYONE who cold calls you claiming your computer has anything wrong with it is a 100% scammer.

We used a couple of options when the scam Microsoft caller rang us.
Option 1: use a Chinese accent for this one.
Me: Herro, wa you waan?
Scammer: There's a fault with you computer.
Me: I give phone to wife, her Engrish veer good.
Wife: Herro, waa you waan?
At which point the scammer hangs up.
Option 2:
Scammer: There's a fault with your computer.
Me: Oh dear, can you fix it?
Scammer: Certainly, just click on my computer.
Me: How can I click on your computer?
Scammer: No, No No, I mean click on my computer on your computer.
Me: How can your computer be on my computer?
Scammer then hangs up.

My favourite method is to pretend to follow caller's instructions, caller asks for me to press the windows + E keys.
Reply "Sorry I can't see the windows key"
Caller will try to explain where key is.
Repeat your reply.
This can go on as long as you want or until you get fed up then say
" My computer is an Apple Mac, it doesn't have a windows key"
If he hasn't already hung up........

If that number you quoted is the correct one, that is a spoofed phone number. They spoof phone numbers all the time, to make you think they are a genuine caller. The call was typical of the sort you get from the Indian sub continent, where they try to get money from you, to fix your infected computer. Sometimes they say they are from Microsoft, or work for them. Once they get access to your computer, they infect it, lock it and hold you to ransom to (maybe) get it back in working order.
Best to either put the phone down, or string them along if you have the time to waste.
The absolute fix, is to get a TruCall system, or a phone system with it built in. It will put a complete stop to all callers who are not in your phone book, or those who are not will to go through the call filtering system it uses. Such calls rapidly diminish, once word gets around that they are wasting their time ringing your number.

Are you serious?
I don't mean to be rude but if such an obvious scam cannot be recognised no wonder these guys are still around. For heaven's sake just tell them to go forth and multiply if that makes you feel better and hang up.

Not everyone possesses a superior intellectual ability so if these posts help to stop someone from falling into the trap then they serve a good purpose.

Its not a matter of intelligence, the most clever of us at times get fooled by some of these scammers. Some of the scammers themselves are very clever and can be very convincing. They have yet to catch me out in any scam, but its not for the lack of them trying.

Not only 'intellectuals'.
I was once asked by a young graduate how to wire up a 13a plug - the guy had no idea where those coloured cables went. His degree? Electronics.
To be fair they had not long changed from the old black, brown, and green - but still.
