Question re tests on phone fault

I am getting crackling on the telephone line and before reporting a fault (I am waiting until the road works outside my house finish next week) I wonder if PlusNet can advise the tests they can carry out before reporting it the BTw
Also, if crackling is evident is it better to raise a fault using the normal system or to ring the help line first.

Re: Question re tests on phone fault

We have a line test tool provided by BT Wholesale, this is run on the line prior to any fault being raised. I'd say you'd be best raising it through the normal path and the line test will pick up any issues, we certainly won't raise it to BT if there's any doubt.
If there's noise on the line with just one phone plugged into the test socket and everything else removed then it's pretty much guaranteed to be a line fault - if you raise one to us let us know you've done that on the ticket.
Hope that helps,

Re: Question re tests on phone fault

Thanks Orbrey - I will wait until the roadworks finish as any work by BT would be impossible at present.
Will report a fault after the next period of high winds and rain when it is always worse.
