Have you been in touch with our Support Team to get the line tested at all?

I have been advised by my support workers that because the phone is connected to the alarm, I have to wait to see if the fault is with the alarm before I call up an engineer. 
Can you test the line to see if it is ok.

I've just tried to test the line but am getting an error that someone is using it for a call. Is the phone line working again now? This may just be a symptom of the fault.

Is your alarm plugged directly into the master socket ? If so have you tried unplugging it ?
If it is plugged into an extension you may want to try removing the bottom plate of the master socket (two screws and it pulls straight out - carefully). This will disconnect any extensions including the alarm if it is plugged into an extension and may solve the problem.
If the alarm is hard wired into the phone line somehow then that's a different matter.

That is the phone is fixed now.  The alarm was faulty and it is fixed now as well as the phone because both are connected.  It is back to normal.
