Phone beeping during calls - help! :)

Hi all, hope someone can help me. Every time I make landline calls, every 10 minutes or so I get a series of long beeps - usually three - at which time neither I nor the other caller can hear each other. I don't have call waiting, and it isn't an answer machine alert. Any ideas? It's driving me slightly insane.

Is this a DECT cordless phone?

Could it be the battery low signal? Eventually the rechargeable batteries wear out giving you only a short period of talk time.

It is a DECT phone (5-7 yr old BT jobbie) and it did cross my mind that it might be a battery issue. But the phone I invariably use is always topped up. Could it be that even with a 'full' battery indicator there's still insufficient charge? Maybe new batteries could be at least one way of knowing if that's the problem, or not. Will give it a go - can always do with batteries.

Remember to use rechargeable replacement batteries and not standard alkaline

Batteries have a limited life and old batteries can fall off a cliff.and quickly go from full charge to no charge
