Phone - Move from BT to PN - define a start date?

Hi,
Currently in my 10th year as a PN Broadband customer and very pleased with everything so far. I'm with BT for line rental and they called me today to sell me a new contract and calls package. Line rental is something that I want to reduce, but don't wish to pay in advance for it, so the offer of £13.90 per month sounded good so I signed up for it. A little later I looked at PN offering and saw the saving (£12.99) so called BT to cancel my order with the view to sign up with PN. They admitted they couldn't compete with the PN offering.
My BT Contract ends on 18th Feb and I've been told that I have to give a months notice (18th Jan will do). If I signup to PN for Line Rental can I state a transfer date?

Unfortunately it's not possible to state an exact date. A transfer usually just takes a few days so make sure you give us the nod (if you'e not done so already) as soon as possible.

So If I make a request online and then notify you guys, you can set a date ?
Do you also allow calls via the likes of Call1899 ?
