Newbie - i want to keep my existing phone number

Just joined Plusnet on Saturday and today I received a text telling me its not possible to switch my existing phone number to Plusnet.  I checked before I signed up that my line would be ok - so what happens now? Ive had my existing number for 50 years, originally with BT, then TalkTalk and now Plusnet- (never moved house) surely I can keep my number?? There was never any mention that I would lose my number.

I got in touch with Customer Services- and they checked it out for me - there had been some error somewhere along the line and confirmed there would be no changes to the number. 

Hope you manage to sort it out.
