New phone account...

HI,
My daughter had a BT line a while back but went over to using her mobile on a pay-as-you-go basis so she never had to worry about big bills.  She's had broadband via a local wireless provider but the service he's providing has now got to the point where she wants to move to another provider.
After making enquiries on her behalf BT tells me her line 'has ceased' - and the re-connection charges for the line is £124.99 incl VAT.  Furthermore they state 'once the payment is made you will be in a 12 month contract with BT'.
Now the obvious question - is there a cheaper way of getting this line 'unceased'...
If there's something in this forum relating to this - my apology - I did look but couldn't find anything...
Thanks,
dad  (who will probably finish off paying the bill anyway...)

Re: New phone account...

Hi there,
If the line is actually ceased we can do a new provide for £105, and a monthly contract.
However, it may be that there's a stopped line in the property in which case we could reconnect it for £38.75, again with a monthly contract.
If you'd like to PM me the full address I can check for you and give you a definitive answer. Smiley

And don't forget to claim your referral, that should get you 75p to £1 off your bill per month.

Strange, I don't seem to have your PM. Would you be able to resend it?

Hi John,
Mand's away from her desk at the moment, so I've just sent her an IM message to remind her of this thread.

Re: New phone account...

Hi there,
I got the second message, so thanks for that. Smiley
Checking the systems the only available option is a new line, which means that any line there previously has been fully ceased as opposed to just 'stopped'.
To connect the line we would charge £105. However you would then have a monthly contract.

Re: New phone account...

Hi Mand,
Is that £105 plus vat - if so it's pretty much the same as what BT wanted...
They (BT) do require a 12 month contract though, I seem to remember.
Thanks for checking it out for me.

Re: New phone account...

Hi there,
It's £105 inclusive of VAT, and a monthly contract.
BT Retail charge £124.99 plus a 12 month contract as standard AFAIK.

Thanks Mand,
I'll tell her - probably finish off paying for it myself anyway!
