FTTC has been available to me for 2-3 years but been hoping Virgin would sort utilisation and the many other issues in Crawley out but with around 4-5 weeks left for them to do many many tasks I have little faith they will pull through.
One of the reasons for not switching yet is that my property like many ni the area does not have any form of Openreach line installed and the closest that the Openreach network is the top of my "concrete" drive!
I've seen some of my neighbours (who needed new lines) have had new lines installed and it looks like Openreach or their contractors have cut into the public pathways from the underground chambers (pits) to the customers premises where it has either been buried under soil beds, lawns, drives and some places with a wall up to the house they have just brought the cable above ground at the end of the drive and clipped it along the wall.
Now I have a planned spot for here I want a master socket and the modem and also a planned route for the cable to come from the street to the NTE but I have a couple of questions!
1# is Openreach known to work closely with the customer when planning the route and assuring they don't make a mess of the customers premises when carrying out work?
2# Does Openreach bury this cable straight in the ground or will they install a duct from the underground chamber in the street to the rise point (by the front door) ?
As mentioned above I have Virgin currently and I'm still fighting with them about my drop cable from the street cab being "shodelly" installed and me and my neighbour are very disappointed with the long length of bright green corrugated tubing running through the bush all the way to the houses.
Regards.
M

In answer to your questions:
1. They need to get you to sign wayleave forms before they start digging up your garden or anything similar. I recommend speaking with the surveyor/engineer when they show and stress the importance of where you want the line feeding to your property. In my experience they'll aim for the cheapest/most practical way to your property.
2. It's likely that they'll carry out ducting work.
Let me know if you sign up as the realist in me says that your order may shows signs of delay, as ducting work often requires input from subcontractors. Ideally, I'd like to oversee this for you.

Seems feasible enough to me, but as previously mentioned it'll be a case of liaising with Openreach on the day.

So at long last our new FTTC connection was finally activated last week and were very happy with it despite one unexpected issue which was the line pair length,
We had first estimated the line to be 200 - 250 metre's to the PCP and then just 3-5 metre's to the NGA (Huawei 288) but it turned out the line went in the opposite direction and that meant the line pair was now 500-600 metre's to the same NGA, I had thought this might of had a huge impact on the sync and latency of the line but 60/20 is still above what Plusnet estimated (56) and also plenty enough for our household,
One of my main reasons for opting for FTTC over Virgin Media's FTTN/HFC network was to reduce Latency and Jitter on the line and also get away from their "disgustingly over-sold and under-maintained network that throughout the day provided very little stability and at busy periods was reduced to continuous log of dropped connections, packet loss and Kbps speeds from the 152/12Mbps service that was subscribed for.
Also if it wasn't for Openreach's contractors, Virgin Media's ducting wouldn't be buried underground (where it belongs) this being something that Virgin had refused to do as they weren't required too.
Virgin Media could learn a thing or two from the work that Openreach and it's contractors have done here at our property.
I can't give all the thanks to Openreach though, None of this would of been possible if it weren't for Matty Cassel keeping me in the loop with every bit of correspondence between himself, Plusnet and Openreach and with him being available nearly all the time and doing all possible to answer or get answers to my questions,
I also have to thank Harry Beesley who worked very swiftly to get an Openreach Broadband engineer booked and confirmed to visit and activate the broadband within 24 hours with just 10-15 minutes notice.
Plusnet have really gone further than the extra mile in this case and have offered us 10x the support that our current/previous provider (Virgin Media) ever has in the time they have existed since their takeover of Telewest/NTL...
This is the 2nd connection of many that I manage and is also the 2nd one that i have switched to Plusnet since November 2014, I'm so far very impressed with the service quality and the customer service provided,
If this continues I will be switching more connections to Plusnet as and when they come up for review in the coming months.
I hope this level of service and customer service continues.

Unfortunately, the great customer service I was receiving during the time this order was being processed soon disappeared once I was out of my cooling off period!
It's a shame that the kindness and hard work effic of the teams at Plusnet is only utilized during the obtaining period and not continued throughtout the term of the customers contract!
I smiled for the first few days but now I can't even pull a straight face when someone ask's "what's Plusnet like?" my face is more of a mix of

The above might seem a bit silly but this is my way of saying...
You've really let me down Plusnet

I'm sure you can understand that I was very happy with the effort you put in during the provision but unfortunately it seems your colleagues are letting the team down.
