Move to SOGEA, phone to A&A. let's see how it all goes!

So, a few minutes ago, I "upgraded" my Plusnet FTTC line to be a SOGEA line.

I already have an A&A VOIP line setup, tested, and ready to go. Just need to get them to port my number. I've email A&A's support team with relevant details, so hoping they will be able to do things in a way that I don't lose my broadband or phone number!

I'll let you know what happens, and how it all goes!

Just don't start the port until after you've had confirmation from PN that the move to SoGEA has completed

Yup, seen that said a few times. When I emailed A&A, I specifically asked them the "when", and I'm sure they'll say the same thing!

Just had an email from Plusnet, looks like the move to SOGEA is next Thursday...

Paul,

Do not do anything until you have AFFIRMATION of the 'migration.

We have seen users initiate the move at a time they have SEEN the change ... only to then find that their service gets trashed entirely.  There is a twilight zone between seeing the change (the phone stops working) and the affirmation of the change within which things can go wrong ...

Got an email this morning: "Your product change is now complete".

Well, the phone still rings if I call it, so still sitting tight!

(My wife almost admitted the other day that we don't REALLY need the phone that much... maybe one day I'll get rid of the "landline")

Re: Move to SOGEA, phone to A&A. let's see how it all goes!

So, no dial-tone as of 5pm last night, and if I try to dial the number, I get a "you have dialled incorrectly" message, so the phone and number are definitely out of service! Plus my online account doesn't show a phone any more on the dashboard.

So I've filled in the A&A "port number" form. I did NOT choose the automatic porting, instead went for the "number recently ceased" option.

My ATA (telephone interface unit) was previously set up with a temporary number, and proven to work, so I updated the settings with the new line details, and it has re-registered ok.

So just two things left: wait for the port to go live, and get rid of the temporary number.

And I had confirmation today that the number has ported.

Even better, it seems to be working fine!
