Message for Mand

Mand - if you are checking the forum please could you take a look at your PM's? Got a Homephone house move problem that I need advice about.

Re: Message for Mand

Just in case anyone knows the answer to this - my niece is moving house in two weeks time.
The property has a current working BT landline/BT broadband - the owner is taking the number.
BT will re-provide and allocate a new number free. She wants to add Homephone to her current broadband Value instead of BT but has been quoted £38.85p for this and it can't be ordered until the line is vacated so they won't have a telephone for up to 2 weeks.
Would it be cheaper to accept the BT free transfer and higher rental cost or to pay the money and go to Homephone?
The other advantage of BT is that they will connect it straight away, i.e. as soon as it is vacated, whereas it seems that Plusnet can't

Re: Message for Mand

A couple of points to think about, is your niece currently a BT customer (I assume they may be), will they be/are they tied into a 12 months contract with BT if taking the "free" BT transfer.
I may be wrong but I thought I'd read that Mand had said "a simultaneous re-provide" can be done if they are given a couple of weeks notice, I personally can't see why it can't be ordered ahead of time.
I also personally think that it would be the height of incompetence (or worse) by BT if they can't provide that service on the same day for PN as they would for BT Retail, at the instant (+/- an hour or two) that the old customer vacates! You obviously need Mand to give the definitive answer.
Edit: I'd drop her a PM in view of the timescale.

Re: Message for Mand

Thank you for the reply. I too thought that there shouldn't have been a charge by Plusnet but have been told that this is the case. They are not on a 12-month contract with BT at the moment but if they are re-provided then they will be and PN won't get the business for that length of time. I telephoned yesterday because we have got 2 weeks before they move. They don't want to wait for 2 weeks before they get a working telephone line and apparently this is what they will have to do if they sign  up with PN. Will have to wait for a a response from Mand.

Re: Message for Mand

No response yet - is Mand out of the office this week? Sales CS seem unable to help this morning. Would appreciate a call if possible - if not, will have to go with BT as time is running out (due to notice required) to get a connection when they move.

Why don't you try PMing Jameseh?  He'll probably be able to help and he's been on here today so at least he's in the office!!

Re: Message for Mand

Thanks for the reply Paul. Have PM'd James but he must be busy at the mo.
Meanwhile, Mand has sent a reply - she too is busy but has said that she will call later.
It appears that the figure quoted is the correct one for a provide so I think that we will have to go with BT for the time being, which will of course require a 12 month contract.

Re: Message for Mand

Have been quoted £38+ for the transfer but ended up calling CS who kindly rang me back this morning and quoted £100+ because the current tenant is taking the telephone number. Wish that it could have been resolved earlier as there are conflicts here. Anyway, am continuing with BT as the change is free and they have given a definite day for the move i.e. 9th April as it can't be done over the bank holiday. The message on the PN telephone system is encouraging us to change to Homephone but it doesn't seem that easy or economical.
