Line Rental Saver

Hi all.

I've just been quoted £197.88 re. the line rental saver. My current one expires on 31.7.18 which is about 2 months away.

If I renew about a week before it expires, will the price remain the same?

Thanks.

Re: Line Rental Saver

I don't think it is Plusnet's policy to speculate what might happen to product prices ahead of announcing a change (with the appropriate 30 days notice).

However since a price refresh comes into force on 5th June 2018 and that states the cost of line rental is not changing I think there is a good chance today's Line Rental Saver prices will still apply at the end of July.

In any case if there was an increase it would be announced 30 days in advance, and past practice has been to allow renewal orders at current price ahead of the increase even if the price would have increased by the day the new order takes effect.

Re: Line Rental Saver

Whatever, you can renew LRS up to 3 months in advance of its expiry … at "today's" price.  I did that at my last renewal - the 3 month threshold occurred one day prior to the new rates coming into effect.

Re: Line Rental Saver

@Townman - I don't really want to renew yet because as mentioned, I've still got about 2 months left on my current contract. And nearly £200 isn't exactly pennies.

Re: Line Rental Saver

You can pay now to come into effect on the expiry date. If seeking to avoid any potential rental increases, you have choices ... though you can always wait for the 30 day notice any such increase would need ... you then still have time to renew early and save.

@Townman - True. I'll have a bit of a think about it.

Re: Line Rental Saver

Hi @Cagney1994, I'm not aware of plans to change the LRS price, however it's not something I'd be able to give 100% confirmation on.

Re: Line Rental Saver

@HarryB - Thanks. And it's shocking that a mere 3 years ago, LRS was £155.88 compared to now: £197.88.

That's a £14 increase each year from 2015 to 2018 Shocked

Re: Line Rental Saver

So in Ofcom's words, over the last 10 years the average line rental increase is up 34% whilst the wholesale cost to the ISPs is down 31%. Who wants to propose that we give three cheers to Ofcom for protecting the consumers interest?

Re: Line Rental Saver

Ofcom did cut prices for customers who don't have broadband.

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/media/media-releases/2017/charges-cut-million-bt-custome...

Meanwhile, the amount of bandwidth being used keeps increasing, and it has to be paid for somehow.
