Re: Is this the worst migration ever? - Now changed to "This IS the worst ...."

Day 11 in the internetless house
Openreach engineer is due to arrive this morning at some point.
So, lets have a sweepstake.
1.  He arrives at 12:59
2.  He arrives whilst I am on the toilet
3.  He arrives whilst I am out for 10 minutes taking the kids to school (I am leaving a note and mobile number on door)
4.  He arrives during Bargain Hunt
5.  He arrives at 8AM utterly disrupting getting the kids ready and when I am undressed and unprepared
6.  He doesn't arrive
7.  He turns up between 9:30 and 11:30 and all goes well

Re: Is this the worst migration ever? - Now changed to "This IS the worst ...."

OK.
Openreach engineer did
30 minutes at the junction box doing "somthing"
40 minutes in the house to fit the mastersocket and connect the extention (I placed the wires as it's location is outside their remit/comfort zone)
The engineer said this was his easiest job as he lives 500 yards away, I did the extention and I had cleared all the access points prior to his arrival.
Now up and running, hussah
Apparently I'm the 91st user on the box so is contention going to be an issue?
the tests suggested 80/20 down/up but has anyone got a decent speed test link so I can post here.
It seems I have also inherited a Thomson TG587n V2 paperweight courtesy of Mr Murdoch.  Anyone got any links showing how to re use it as a wireless repeater station?
Currently trying to rebuild my network (port forwarding, loads of named devices on fixed IPs so I can monitor them some hardwired some wireless) which will take some time
It's also refusing to switch the FTP from the router to my PC. I have disabled all the content sharing (but not restarted the router), any ideas?

Run the BTw Performance test (ignore the red preamble except make sure no other programs are using the Internet) and at the end of the first run, click the Further Diagnostics button, enter just your Phone number and Run the Further Diagnostics Test. The result will give you the DS IP profile for the line. On FTTC Profile x1.033 = Sync speed.
Edit: you may find this post informative, note the last paragraph.

Re: Is this the worst migration ever? - Now changed to "This IS the worst ...."

checked your speedwave
21 ping, 36.55 down, 16.03 up
thinkbroadband
26 ping, 36.11 down, 18.57 up
BT
48 ping, 36.52 down, 15.83 up
Downspeed is pretty dissapointing but we shall see how it progresses as the line has only been active an hour
Still can't asign the FTP which is frustrating

Download in the high 30s suggests you may have been provisioned on a 40Mb service, if this is the case Plusnet should be able to fix it easily.

With 15+ to 18+ up  Huh But certainly the down doesn't seem quite consistent with that! Odd  Undecided

Glad to see you're online! Try logging in to the router and doing a disconnect/reconnect and try the speed test again, you should get a bit more.
