I thought the following would have been covered somewhere on the forum but a search did not show anything.
I having been looking at changing to Plusnet Home phone. One area I have checked is the cost of making indirect access code calls (I understand these are allowed). It looks like the Plusnet cost per minute can be higher than BT for a given code, here is an example. Have I got this right?
Abroadtel landline call to Canada indirect access number 0844 721 00 01, 1p/min.
http://www.abroadtel.co.uk/
OK so now go to the BT web page that gives matching of phone codes to charge rates:
http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/1632_d0e5.htm#1632-d0e5
Look up 0844 72 and it shows as g8.
Now go to BT specialised phone tariff pdf (dated 1 Feb 2013):
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/assets/downloads/BT_PhoneTariff_SpecialNos.pdf
The BT tariff shows 1.02p/min (almost the same as the Abroadtel claim of 1p/min)
Now go to the Plusnet phone tariff here:
http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/tariffs/
and g8 shows as 2p/min
There are other examples but this one will do. If this is right one can only take the price from the indirect access company web site as applying to BT.
If I have got this right, it would be necessary to go through the above check for every indirect access code number one was thinking of using on Plusnet.

Hi - we set prices independently of BT Retail and companies which advertise specific rates should always stipulate "from a BT (Retail) landline". Your method of price checking is accurate to find our costs and I can always confirm for specific numbers if necessary.

I don't use 0844 indirect access these days, did a few years back, and last time I looked I thought Plusnet's prices were the same as BT (well at least the ones I used). So things seem to have changed eh! I'll have to take a closer look
@lewis01
There are plenty of other companies out there that do similar things at similar prices, I would make a point of using them instead as this lot are wildly out of date with there setup fee information, never mind the reference to Telewest who were taken over by Virgin ages ago. You need to report the company to the ASA as this is a clear breach of Advertising Standards.Grossly misleading and it isn't exactly clear that the per minute prices they are quoting are only from a BT landline until you dig a few pages deeper, and even then IMHO it's not crystal clear.
At least this lot make it clear on their rates page http://www.4cheapcalling.co.uk/rates.php though they don't mention setup fees
