How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

I know I can do so each call by the prefix 141, but can I set the phone to hide my caller I.D. on every call automatically?
I have a BT Inspire 1500 landline with Plusnet.
Cannot find any setting on handset menu that allows this. Can Plusnet set it up?
Thanks!

There's a paid for option with BT for withholding your number that is chargeable, so assume PN could offer the same service.

Last time I looked BT didn't charge for it - it was available on request.
There's also a code (can't recall it) to let the number be forwarded on individual calls (ie - opposite to the norm).

You're right 4C, I've just checked and the documentation on BT's site suggest it's free.

Ah, thanks DV.
Just remains to be seen whether it's the same with PN.
Can't see why it shouldn't be - AFAIK it's one of those choices like whether to be ex-directory or not - rather than a paid for feature like caller display.

Unfortunately it's not a service we offer at the moment.

Re: How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

When I was with BT for home phone, it was offered free as part of the BT privacy package, which also included free caller display. when I transferred home  phone to Plusnet, the caller display was a chargeable option, but the ' hide my number' on outgoing calls is still active.

So another reason to add to the threads discussing reasons not to move line rental from BT to PN.

The Withheld Number option is something that *can* be moved across from other providers, however generally when we place orders, we select what features are put on your line.
If you require Withheld Number in extenuating circumstances, it is worth raising us a ticket at http://contactus.plus.net to see what we can do for you.

Re: How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

Chris I may move my phone over to PlusNet as part of a deal I have been offered but I do want withhold number on my line permanently. I have always had withhold number on BT for many years but am worried I will have to mess about, from what you are saying above.
If withhold number moves over from BT, then that’s great but do I have to raise a ticket before any move?  As I don't want PlusNet staff selecting, or not selecting, the withhold number, because they could decide what I do or don't need on my line. Or because maybe lack of, technical knowledge of how it works?  Thanks.

If the withhold number feature is really that important to you then unless PN can definitely guarantee they can get it for you before you move to them, then I know where I would be staying for now.
It's not one of their standard call features as far as I know and others have said it is a service (not a call feature) available free from BT:-

Re: How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

Thanks Apprentice but it's a pity PlusNet staff can't be bothered to reply and seems we keep being given different answers. Withhold number is a simple but basic feature that PlusNet should do without any problems. PlusNet use the same openreach wholesale network as BT do, so should have the same options as BT. Even the post office offer withhold number.
I did give PlusNet a call yesterday and was told it should not be a problem but this is the problem, you get told one thing then next, told another. This happened to me recently with my offer.  Sad
I will find out how this works. I will speak with senor staff that are in the know if I have to. Plusnet want me to sign a 24 month contact, then they are going to have to give me a straight answer and do better than this.

Just seen a message about this topic. First part may not be quite as I thought about reply.

Re: How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

It's not that we can't, it's that we have no facility to do this from Workplace, our back-office system. Some people know how to go into the ordering system (built & maintained by a third party) to place this order for you but not everyone - hence the discrepancy in information.

Huh  The old saying 'left hand right hand ...' springs to mind.  Perhaps time for all relevant staff to be trained in how to do this seemingly basic task then?

Re: How to hide my caller I.D. all the time?

The workflows completed within the business are very extensive and disparate in nature. If we were to train everyone on everything then you would be in a worse situation than multiple 'masters of none' as agents couldn't be trained to a high standard and wouldn't retain the skillsets if not regularly practiced. As such, you'd end up with an entire support staff who were unable to help, as opposed to having specialists in each area who can.
