How do I make my phone number ex-directoy ?

I'm not sure if this is the correct way to go about doing this, but my phone number is being bombarded with courtesy calls and I need to find out how to stop it.
Any help with either making my number ex-directory or where I should be posting would be greatly appreciated.

I find the best way to deal with these people who cold call is to pretend to be a copper at a murder scene.  I have been doing it for years and it seems to work, we never get a 2nd call from the same company.
Check out this guy in the USA who has done the same thing but has taken it even further and actually recorded it.
