Ex-Plusnet landline not contactable from Plusnet landlines

I ported my landline from Plusnet to Localphone some months ago, in anticipation of the service being withdrawn by Plusnet. I still have broadband with Plusnet.

Everything seems to have worked and be working well -- outgoing and incoming calls -- with one exception. A couple of people say that they can't get through to my landline any more, and the common factor is that their landlines are with Plusnet.

I have reported this to Plusnet, but nothing has changed. Any suggestions as to what the issue might be and how I go about getting Plusnet to fix it?

What, if anything, have PN said in response to your reports? There have been occasional reports of this issue previously, but I don't recall the resolutions.

There is quite a lot of complex "stuff" behind call routing although I'm surprised Plusnet has a different set of call routing to BT.

Do the callers who are unable to phone you both use the same exchange?

It would pontentially be easier for one of those people to fault their inability to phone you with Plusnet.

I am the satisfied customer....

They said very little. I got an email which said:

"I have asked for further time to investigate this fully as it is a situation I have not come across before.  All our numbers are supplied of BT database and if it is working with others calling you it maybe an issue with [the caller's] connection."

Then all went quiet, although I think I may have got a message telling me that the matter was resolved (which it wasn't).

Both on different exchanges, so it's not an exchange-specific issue. In principle I see why it could make sense for them to report the fault, but they just work around it by calling my mobile instead. It would just be nice to know that if someone -- anyone -- tries to ring my landline number they would actually get through to it.

In which case you need to contact them again - as I said, this situation has happened before, but so long ago I honestly can't remember the resolution. Unfortunately, these edge-cases need experienced staff to resolve them, and they appear to be lacking these days.

@Gandalf - is this something you can work your wizardry on?

Yes, I guess I will. I was/am hoping that someone here might have had the same problem, so that I would at least have a clearer understanding of what I'm asking for -- rather than simply being told that there isn't or can't be such a problem.

Hey,

Do you know what happens when they call your number, do they hear any particular message?

Also, just to test a theory, could you ask them to try dialling your number with 1470 or 1280 in front of it?

Re: Ex-Plusnet landline not contactable from Plusnet landlines

When we moved from BT to Sipgate we had issues calling to my father in law's Talk Talk numbers.

As we were placing the calls that repeatedly failed, I contacted my VoIP provider Sipgate and a ticket was opened & resolved after a week or so.

Ask the parties that are with Plusnet Telephone Service to report to Plusnet the repeated failure to be able to dial & connect to your telephone number that is now with the VoIP provider.

Re: Ex-Plusnet landline not contactable from Plusnet landlines

There are various complications here, usually related to the original owner (range holder) of the number.  Similar issues have been seen with Sky and Now issued numbers when they go walk abouts through several owners.  See ...

Where did your number come from?

It might help to profile this issue by knowing the original network owner for your phone number. You can find the range holder for your phone number here - UK Phone Number Range Holders
