Does this number get charged

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-14911686
Quote
Police in Dorset have activated a phone number for non-emergency calls.
Members of the public can call 101 to contact the police to report less urgent crime and disorder or to speak to local officers.
The new number has been introduced as part of a national programme to ease pressure on the 999 emergency service.
Chief Superintendent Colin Searle said: "This will make contacting the police to discuss non-urgent issues easier and much more straight forward."
"Always dial 999 in an emergency - when life is in danger or a crime is in progress," he added.
The 101 number will replace the current 01202 or 01305 222 222 non-emergency number in Dorset.
It is expected to also reduce the number of inappropriate 999 calls the force receives.
Calls to the 101 non-emergency number from both landlines and mobile phones will cost 15 pence per call regardless of the time or duration of the call.
All forces in the South West have started using 101, and the number will be standard across the whole of England and Wales by January 2012.

Re: Does this number get charged

We have a similar thing in Sheffield http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/crime-reduction/asb/101
It says
Quote
All calls cost a flat rate of 10p from landlines and mobiles, whatever the length of the call.
Phone companies list these calls in different places on their bills - for example BT include them under Premium Rate (but they only apply the costs above, not Premium Rate charges).

15p from a BT landline.

Other providers, and mobile phone services, presumably can charge a different price.

Re: Does this number get charged

I usually just phone the direct line number x2222 in my area. (On the few occasions I need to call them).

Re: Does this number get charged

Looks like Sheffield quoting 10p is out of step with all the other forces (I've checked a few).

Re: Does this number get charged

[quote=http://www.essex.police.uk/default.aspx?page=601]Calls made to 101 will cost 15 pence for the entire call no matter how long the call or what time of day it is. This applies to both landline and mobile phones. Calls to 101 are not currently included as part of inclusive minute or discount packages.

Re: Does this number get charged

It looks like PN are charging the wrong amount because Sheffield have specified a different amount to all the other forces.

Re: Does this number get charged

I believe the Sheffield 101 service is a little different from the rest of the country...apart from the fact that it very nearly closed down.
