Do I need to have 1571 switched off ? (New Officejet 8610 with fax functionality

Hi all
If im using a fax/printer to auto answer on faxes, the HP manual mentions about having voicemail functionality switched off. Would I need to disable 1571 to avoid any conflicts/issues with fax functionality ?

Surely it just depends which answers first.  If your 1571 service answers after, say, 4 rings and your fax machine waits for 6 rings then it's never going to get a look-in.  Does anyone still use fax machines these days?

They certainly do in Japan  - so, for international companies/individuals that deal with that country it is a must.

Unfortunately you would be surprised for work purposes   your answer confirms my suspicions so I suspect I might need to get plusnet to turn it off. I just wondered if others had any experience with these printers and 1571.

I'm not sure if 1571 will kick in when you're already on the phone. That could be an issue if you have an incoming fax message and instead of getting the engaged tone, you get the answer message.
Other than that, 1571 shouldn't cause any issues as long as the fax machine is set to pickup a couple of rings before 1571 kicks in.
