Debt advisory computer cold calling

Hi All,
We are getting plagued by computer cold calling to give debt advice, we have been in TPS for several years and real marketing calls have completly dried up but these computer calls are becoming a real pain. No details given and withheld numbers so apparently impossible to know who it really is.
I know that you can stop witheld numbers but the work exchange does that so I don't want to. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks
Alistair

I ask them which company they are calling from when they have told me I tell them I'm on the TPS don't call me again and I'll report them to Ofcom.
Has worked for me.

Re: Debt advisory computer cold calling

Hi there,
What adiewoo suggests is the best option initially.
If that doesn't work there are two options:
1) block all anonymous/withheld numbers (which you've said is not preferable)
2) Choose to refuse - this is not something we offer as standard, but can be added manually. It allows you to block individual callers at exchange level even if the number is withheld. It costs £6 a quarter though.

Thanks for the replies, for no apparent reason it has all gone quiet again now so I'll just cross my fingers that OFCOM has been having words.

Re: Debt advisory computer cold calling

I saw a gadget being sold on QVC the other night that sits between the phone and socket and asks the caller to identify themselves the first time they call. Once they are accepted call sgo straight through as normal. If a call is refused the phone never rings. Quite how it identifies foreign calls I don't know but they claimed it did.

Yes that's the one. Does not work as they claimed on the TV by the look of it for international calls.
