Cost of Directory Enquiries.

I needed to check a phone number. I dialled 118226 who's web site (118CAN) states that you can make up to 2 enquiries for 23.5p. PN have charged me 49p for 1. Any-one know why?
Also can any-one advise whether there a cheaper source that doesn't involve having to listen to adverts?

That's the one I always use + my old BT registration still works.

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

118 CAN should have included the disclaimer that "calls from a BT land line cost x, calls from other providers may vary and that calls from mobiles may cost considerably more" as others do when giving out numbers on TV.
However...
BT classes 118226 as a dq57 fixed rate of 23p per call.
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/consumerProducts/pdf/SpecialisedNos.pdf
Plusnet charges (or is supposed to charge) 25.30p per call to dq57 numbers.

You seem to have experienced yet another foul up in the phone billing system.

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

Hi there,
You should have been charged a fixed fee for this call of 23p. I've raised a problem to get this investigated (ref 59842).

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

23p? Are you saying that the Plusnet list if tariffs is also incorrect? As I posted above the published rate is 25.3p per call.

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

25.3p is the pence per minute rate if the call is chargeable (the fixed fee only applies for the first minute, however most of these calls don't take longer than a minute).

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

Plusnet lists dq57 under "fixed fee calls" not under "Calls charged by fixed fee and Timed Duration (where the fixed fee is the charge for the first 60 seconds of the call, or part thereof, and the duration charge applies following the first 60 seconds)"

Re: Cost of Directory Enquiries.

I do as Jim does and use the BT website for all my directory enquires.  Works well.
