Christmas Day call charges

Just checked my current itemised calls and noticed charges for Christmas Day. I appreciate that Christmas day being a Friday that calls before 6pm would on a normal Friday be charged. It would be nice considering the time of year and that Friday 25th was a bank holiday if Christmas Day would be charged as a weekend.

Didn't it used to be the case that calls on Christmas day were at cheap rate - in the BT monopoly era ?.
Lets face it - it doesn't actually cost BT anything extra for UK calls as equipment is all automatic.
Was different before STD when operators were needed - my Mum worked Christmas day morning once.

It certainly was, all BH's were at cheap rate. And that was when an engineer had to modify the "charging equipment" at each individual exchange and change it back afterwards. Many a happy hour spent moving the straps in ND & UAXs.

Thanks Dennis - but maybe moving straps was reliable than some of this modern software that is used now !.

I have to admit I didn't always get it right first time but a good kick usually sorted it!

Calls on Christmas day have been charged at full price for a good few years now by BT (certainly was the case ~12 years ago).
