Calls to 123 that are actually Openreach engineers test calls

Can you not find a way of stopping this? After all you are owned by BT and so is Openreach.

I have two charges (7th July). One is even for zero minutes!! Could you also explain how you can be charged for a zero call.

Re: Calls to 123 that are actually Openreach engineers test calls

It's a commonly recurring theme on the forum  Sad

The problem only entered public consciousness with the advent of fully itemised billing in the 80s, but it's been around for a lot longer than that, with no realistic prospect of a solution. See:

After 2025 it won't be a problem anymore.  Once we have retired the PSTN phone network and everyone moved to VoIP no Openreach engineer will be able to dial any numbers on your line by just attaching a phone.

Re: Calls to 123 that are actually Openreach engineers test calls

Thanks for reaching out @MartinC

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do on our end with regards to how Openreach engineers test the line, though I agree that they ought to be more mindful that these calls do add extra charges onto your bill.

Anyway, I've refunded the extra amount and have sent you a confirmatory email if you'd like to have a look. Feel free to reach out if you have any further issues/ queries.
