Call charges wrong

How can a one minute mobile phone call cost 23p when the tarrif shows 9.30pm + 9.3p connection charge. To me that adds up to 18.6p rounded up - 19p. So where does the other 4p come from? How many more over charges are there?

Re: Call charges wrong

23.4p is the price on the new tariff (12.5ppm plus 10.9p).  Are you on the "new" Talk Anytime?

Re: Call charges wrong

No i'm on Evening and Weekends. I wonder how many other people are being overcharged. The only reason I noticed itt was because I rang my new mobile (Did not answer but still got charged one minute) to test it.

Re: Call charges wrong

The E&W tariff to "UK mobiles" (prior to January's increase) is listed as  9.3p set-up and  12.5p per minute.
http://www.plus.net/residential/tariffs/ew-and-intl300-tariff.html
The 9.3p per minute is for "UK Mobiles (25% off)". I am not sure who gets that.
The calculation used was as follows
12.5p per minute rounded up comes to 13p + 9.3p comes to 22.3p rounded up again comes to 23p.

Re: Call charges wrong

The way to go is VOIP (Not PlusNet as that's a rip off as well) to make calls. I use Sipgate and find the calls cost are a fraction of PlusNet L/line and VOIP and no rip off connection fee.

Re: Call charges wrong

I've just been doing some further calculations. A one minute UK phone call using PlusNet will cost 18p on the new tariff, on Spigate it will cost you 2p. A call to Australia will cost you 8.48ppm on Sipgate 1.90ppm and of course no connection charge. It just goes to show what a rip off the UK phone network is getting.
With new technology calls and line rental should be getting cheaper not dearer. 40 years ago you could make a three minute call for 3d (about 1.5p)

Re: Call charges wrong

Generally prices now are about 10 times what they were 40 years ago so your 1.5p is then is equivalent to 15p now approx.

The connection charge now makes short calls relatively expensive.
Forty years ago charges were based on the distance one had to call.  A local call was much cheaper than a call to someone in the UK hundreds of miles away.
Forty years ago calls were not free during evenings and weekends.

Re: Call charges wrong

Yes 15p now but that was for three minutes. Call were cheaper evening and weekends as well. Calls are NOT free evening and weekends you pay for them in the standing charge.
