I've signed up and got the number 1572 from somewhere. however it was remarkably difficult to get this page
https://www.plus.net/home-broadband/plusnet-call-protect
when searching for instructions
Are the online features available to BT customers accessible in any way?
I have been plagued by BT technical department calls wanting to fix my internet security by taking over my PC using teamviewer
Isn't it about time the industry sorted this out with an easy single point reporting system?
How are they allowed to (continualy) get these numbers?
The number used to call me had been active for at least 6 days
how many people fell for it in that time?

I'm afraid this isn't something available with Plusnet Call Protect.
However instructions for using Plusnet Call Protect can be found on the call feature FAQ here: https://www.plus.net/help/phone/call-features/#how-do-i-use-call-features

I believe you can report these types of scam phone calls to action fraud here: http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud
Other information on spam/scam calls etc. can be found here: https://ico.org.uk/concerns/nuisance-calls-and-messages/

Part of the problem is that numbers are often spoofed, meaning that the number that appears to be calling you isn't the number the scammer is actually calling you from.
I also previously read somewhere (But can't find the page now) that a large part of getting this under control is that while it is clearly illegal to claim to be BT to fraudulently gain access to someone's PC to then lock it out and hold data at ransom until a payment is made etc. UK Governing bodies have little control when the companies/scammers making these calls are often based overseas, where they have no jurisdiction.
