Beware of current scam

Over the past week I have been receiving a number of scam phone calls sometimes 2-3 times a day, consisting of a recorded female voice saying that my internet provider is going to cut off my account because of illegal activity and asking me to press key 1 on the keypad to sort it out.

Needless to say I am aware that PlusNet would never contact you like this, but just to make others aware that this is happening, and say just put the phone down. Don't press button 1

Re: Beware of current scam

I had one an hour ago from HM Revenue & Customs.

I put it on speaker for me and my window cleaner to have a laugh
The caller told me a tax fraud had been committed at my address and there was a warrant out for my arrest.  .

I was told to press 1 to speak to an advisor.

I hung up.

Re: Beware of current scam

Mine was appliance insurance (which I don't have)...

Them: "We're pleased to offer insurance renewal for your TV at £x"

Me: "Thank you"

Them: " Can you confirm your TV is Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Polaroid ..." (Presumably fishing for details)

Me: "Yes I can" (giving none)

Them: Can you tell me how old the unit is?" (Hey, it's a renewal isn't it - shouldn't you already know?)

Me: "35 years"

Them: "Pardon?"

Me: "35 - three five - years"

Re: Beware of current scam

I had that a few weeks ago. First few were your (non existent) prime account is running out. Followed by a few of illegal activity ones.

After a week or so they just stopped.
