Are Calls Via 08081703703 Free From Plusnet Charges?

After news of BT's latest price hike I've decided to change provider. I currently use 18185 for most calls and althought BT don't make additional charges I understand that Plusnet do charge. However, after talking to Customer Service it is still not clear if the alternative re-direct number to 18185 which is 08081703703 is charged or not by Plusnet.
Can anyone clarify please? Thanks!

Thanks Ben, If there are no charges at all then, based on this, I will change to Plusnet. Many thanks!

I occasionally use 18185 and haven't been charged for any calls using it.

That's interesting.Customer Service told me the charges that 18185 attracted and they are the highest of the non-inclusive charges. I'll give it a try when I transfer.Cheers.

It appears that we don't get the information when a customer calls 18185 - which I suppose makes sense, consider this is a carrier pre-select number. In effect, we never even know you make the call.

Re: Are Calls Via 08081703703 Free From Plusnet Charges?

Thanks for the info. Ben.
Must say that I am confused ; I spoke to Chris in Customer Service who read out the PN charges for making a 18185 call and since then I've see a forum post in Moneysaving Expert by a PN customer who said that he was charged by PN for making 18185 calls. Yet, later in the thread, another post by a PN customer said that they were not charged.
Your comment that you don't 'see' the 18185 calls is logical as it would still remain a BT line in effect and, as a BT owned re-seller,  then the same rules should apply to PN as they do with BT but there seems to be a lot of contradictory information about.

As I said I don't make many calls via 18185 (or many calls .) but I can't remember ever seeing a charge for 18185 appearing on my pn bill. As Chris said it is cps so should be filtered out before they get it, unless they have started blocking cps?

Well, I've scoured various web sites and there are a lot of conflicting stories but I think we have to rely on Ben's last post (seeing that he is from the right department) that PN don't charge. If I do get a bill for 18185 calls after transferring my line then I won't be a happy bunny...

Simple thing to check make a call and check the on-line logs to see if you have been charged, if they have started charging then they have changed the conditions and I haven't had any notification of it.

@ronroam1
Sorry for any confusion, I expect my colleague mis-heard you and thought you were talking about 118185 which could be a directory enquiries number? In any case, I queried our call database for a call to 18185 and we have none whatsoever - we certainly can't charge for it if we don't know you're dialling it!

Re: Are Calls Via 08081703703 Free From Plusnet Charges?

Can anyone confirm which phone number is required to be dialled from a Plusnet home phonein order to access the 18185 indirect access phone provider: -
(1) dial 18185 = 5p connection fee + 0p per minute within UK
or
(2) dial 0808 1 703 703 = 5p connection fee + 1p per minute within UK

Additionally, does Plusnet make a charge for using either of the above phone numbers?

I think that makes it clear that if you dial 18185 Plusnet won't know about it which means they can't (and don't) make any charge for it. So the cost of calls via 18185 should be whatever that service provider lists in their tariff.
