18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

Hi- I was going to contribute to the last topic re this question but as it was so long ago (and with the speed things change) a window came up advising me to start new topic so....
I am considering (along with other family members- re my recommendation), to switch to Plusnet for home phone/line rental along with B-Band.
We still want to be able to use 18185 and so... can we use 18185 with Plusnet? If that is 'Yes'-  do Plusnet intend to stop access to 18185 in the foreseeable future?
Thanks. H.

I believe you can but why, as on the home phone anytime all calls to 01,02,03,0845,0870 are free and to 20 top international you get 300 minutes

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

Hi pierre_pierre
Thanks for your reply and in answer to your question.  We have been happy with our experience of 18185 (currently our line is rented from BT ) and the amount of calls that we would make through 18185 (+ we don't make international calls) would not justify the extra £5 for the 'anytime' call plan.  So it's a matter of weighing up what we want value/cost wise along with good customer service.  We're not focussing on the cheapest deals and if I'm a happy customer I will stay where I am (and recommend) unless I'm given good reason to look elsewhere.  I'm looking for an open/transparent stress free contract that I don't want to leave.  Thanks again.

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

An interesting question Helen - I am curious for my own use after seeing this Smiley
I believe looking at the 18185 site it looks like you would need to dial an 0808 number if you were on Plusnet and no longer with BT, but I cannot see how much PN charge for 0808 calls on their tariff page. If you can make those calls free then you could have your cake and eat it using the evenings and weekends package!
Anybody from PN answer that question about 0808 call charges?

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

Hi guys,
We don't block any carrier services specifically, and there's nothing on our network that would stop them working. We don't support them however, so if there were problems you'd need to contact the 3rd party.
Lyndon, 0808 calls are free. Smiley

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

I don't think, looking at the 18185 site, that 0808 calls are applicable as it's still a BT landline.
Thanks for the info, Mand, as it would make calls to my daughter's mobile a little cheaper  Smiley

Thanks all for your contributions inc. clarification from Mand/Plusnet.

I was hoping 18185 would not be blocked as it is pretty important in my where to switch to decision.  When I make the occasional local/national day-time call it makes a huge difference paying 5p for 1hr  as opposed to 4p (or whatever) a min.  I've been signed up for over 3 years and I've had no problems to mention but I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I needed to rely on their customer service.  These override carriers are often cheap because they don't have a dedicated customer service team.  So far my customer experience with Plusnet has been positive so that's why I wanted to know more before making my decision.

Have just signed with 18185 - Glad you asked as a friend has used it for years and I wasn't sure if PN allowed it.
Don't make sufficient daytime calls to warrant Anytime but calls to mobiles will save me money.

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

A quote from the price list published on the 18185 website:
Quote
A 4p connection fee applies to all international calls. For national calls this will be 5p
UK landline calls are charged a further 1p per minute.
Of course, if you make very few daytime calls, this could work out cheaper than the anytime talk plan, but that does include calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. Alternatively, you may be able to use your telephone much more frequently!  Wink

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

UK landline calls are 0p per minute + 5p setup fee.
Just made one and it cost me 5p as follows:-
Quote
Calls:    00:06:36  £ 0.05

I've been using PN to call my daughter's mobile and 18185 will save me about 19p on a 10 minute call which I can now make at anytime and not wait until after 6pm.

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

You may already know by testing, but I can confirm that international calls via 18185 work OK with Plusnet homephone, as I use 18185 for all international calls (none of the 20 "top?" international destinations are any use to me).

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

Very impressed with the speed that call data appears on their site - no more than an hour after the call.
ps I see that Sky don't allow 18185 if you have home phone with them.

Re: 18185- Can I use with Plusnet?

Sky offer a calls only package for non-Sky subscribers too, so they're in more direct competition with companies like 18185.
Obviously we'd rather you make calls through us, but as I said we don't do anything to prevent the use of these services.
