Could anyone tell me if a answer service such as BTs 1571,is available on PN home phone anytime and is it free as BTs is.

A bit grumpy now I find I've got to pay another £1 for 1471,but we do use it a lot.This brings the cost to about £16/month plus extra calls for anytime+ my BT bill is about £50+ per 3 months,might try it ,after all I can go back after 1 month.

1471 shouldn't cost you any extra at all...

I know that 1571 is free from BT and also don't forget that line rental is a little more expensive with them too, hence 1571 is free with them.
If you take more features through Plusnet it does get cheaper though if that is any consolation.

Personally I wouldn't recommend 1571 (as implimented by BT, or come to that any UK telco). What they do not make clear is that if you are on the phone, anyone ringing you goes straight to answerphone, no engaged tone, ringing etc. so the caller has no chance to use ring when free if they wanted to, and if it's not an inclusive call they get copped a connection charge - no joke if someone is trying to get you urgently and it's not appropriate to leave a message (which you may not get until hours or whatever later anyway)!

Yes, the free 1471 call return from PlusNet more than makes up for no included 1571; we have an answerphone anyway for when we can't take calls.
We have caller display and caller waiting enabled for £1.96 a month. Don't need the latter often but it has proved its worth (49p per month with the call feature bundle) on a few occasions when someone has needed to talk urgently and we've been on the phone at the time.

i can see it helps some people,but I have just bought 2 cordless phones no caller display,no answer phone,so that leaves me with 99p a month for 1471 or buy new equipment.

You get 1471 free as well as the free 1471 call return. It's 1571 that costs (or was that what you really meant?).
With PlusNet you also gain over BT on the free 'evening' calls as theirs run from 18.00-06.00 whereas PN's are 18.00-08.00

(P.S. We have 2 cordless phones but they're linked up to a base station/answerphone and all 3 show the caller.)

Tend to agree with Anotherone. Fortunately, I have inclusive calls with Anytime+ but have noticed that when I call my friends who have 1571 the calls are charged when the the line is engaged and the answerphone cuts in.
I bought a set of telephones last year with an answerphone and find it much better. Also, I can switch it off if I wish.

the only advantage that 1571 has over that is that if some one call you whilst  you are using the phone, a recording is made by 1571.  And that is also charged as a call to the sender, if they reach your answer phone that is also charged to the sender.

Are you saying Poppy that when you ring someone and their 1571 cuts in you are charged even if you have anytime+, that seems strange if your calls are free. I see the solution for me is to go with anytime+ and add 1571 as an extra for about £1 I think.

not charged as such it comes of your allowance if you are on one of the other packages, like me On the heritage 240 (mins a month) and my mobile 500 mins from home llocation

Calls which are picked up by someone's voice mail will be "charged" as per your package.  If you're on Anytime+, for example, calls picked up by voice mail will be "free" as they're part of your inclusive calls (provided you've dialed an 01,02 or 03 number).
