1571 nasty surprise not free at PN towers - updated it Is Free

Currently saving £5 on my phone bill excluding calls, just by doing a move from BT to PN.  But I had planned on enabling 1571 and find its not free as it is with BT, so my actual saving is £2 a month so hardly worth it in the end.

It should be free, pretty sure it was when I transferred, don't use it myself as I have an answering machine.

The basic 1571 is free, the full all singing and dancing "Call Minder" is not, as you say £3pm.
However, I thought I recently saw some info that say the basic 1571 as supplied by PN would now allow you to record your own message.

Personally I hate 1571, when you phone someone that has it and they are on the phone, you lose the option to use ring back, and it's not always appropriate to leave a message, and if the call isn't within inclusive minutes it's just cost you 20 or 21p or so depending on the provider. Really great that, 20p to get an engaged number

Can you let us know what lead you to believe that is was not free with your service if selected?
We'll do our best to get whatever message corrected, as we can confirm it is free if you require it and I can see you have selected to have it activated on your account.

When I checked it yesterday morning, the only option was the £3 Extra option to enable voicemail.  But I had a look again later that night and either I was tired or a glitch when I looked in the morning as the free option wasn't listed then.
I'll go with tired for now but if not I viewed it with Opera 11.64

I am on Anytime Plus with BT and all 1571 calls are charged at 17p.
In order to get 1571 free, You have to make 6 calls  within every 3 months using chargeable BT.
To do this You have to dial 1280 before 01,02,03 calls to qualify the 6 chargeable BT calls
I don't get many messages left me, so I don't bother .
Incidentally, 1471 calls are charged at 17p each also....

I would suspect that this means you already have the free version of 1571 enabled on your phone line. Calling 1571 is free, so I would suggest calling it and seeing if it will direct you to a mailbox or not?
We do offer two types of Voicemail service, the free version is normally added to most accounts as standard, this can be removed at any time, this offers just the basic mailbox. The Voicemail Plus, which is charged at £3 has additional features, such as a larger mailbox and the facility to change the number of rings before diverting to the mailbox and the option to record your own personal greeting.
Let us know if you don't have the free 1571 service on your line as this should show in the member centre for you to add.

Not correct - you can record your own message on standard voice mail

The free voicemail feature that you see when you go to the phone bit of the control panel then call features, is that the basic 1571 you get for nothing, then there is the voicemail extra which you pay for, is that correct?.
