0845 Numbers

I recently lost all broadband connectivity duly reported the fault via the telephone. My phone is provided by Plusnet and I'm on the Talk Anytime product. Normally we are provided with a free dial up number in these circumstance but on the occasion it was not offered. Nothing daunted as I had number from a previous problem so I used my laptop to access the Portal to post updates to the problem and access emails. This number was 0845 1400101. I wasn't too bothered as I thought 0845 numbers were free on my phone tarriff anyway. However, I now find I've been charged £7.51 for the calls I made mostly servicing the fault.
Can someone explain why this should be and is there any way these charges could be revoked? The Question ID was 33101677.

Re: 0845 Numbers

Hi mozzy,
There are actually a few exceptions to the free 0845 calls rule, namely these are carrier preselect numbers (generally the ones where you dial an 0845 prefix to a number to reroute calls and get them cheaper) or dial up numbers. In your case its the dial up number 0845 1400101. I'm going to credit you for this straight away as we should be giving out a free 0808 number for dialup use in the event of a fault.
Please accept our apologies,
Adam

Re: 0845 Numbers

how long were you on for as all calls are limited to 59 mins, then you redial or get charged
Also if on a heritage home phone like me, only get 0870 not 0845  - just for info as you seem to be on the recent package
Just seen Adams post, but this is valid info as well

Thank-you Adam for such a prompt and welcome reply very much appreciated. Thanks also for explaining the 0845 rule, I wasn't aware of such restricitions.

Re: 0845 Numbers

Pierre_pierre, the calls were made over 3 and a bit days, when I had no broadband.  I called in twice a day but none of the calls reached the 59 minute threshold you speak of. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I thought that it was of general interest hence my posting in here.
