0800 numbers

Now that  0800 numbers are free, is this at any time, even if I only have "free evenings and weekend" calls on my tariff?

Yes, they've ( almost ) always been free from landlines, the main change now is that they're also free from mobiles. In the past, most mobile operators, with a few exceptions, have changed for 0800 calls, they can no longer do this.

Do they deduct the time for calls to 0800 minutes from your monthly allowance or are they genuinely free?  I cant believe they would be totally free

They also must be free on PAYG so they can not deduct from any allowance there, so I would assume they won't deduct from any allowance on a contract. I'm sure OFCOM ( who forced the change ) wouldn't look too kindly on operators deducting 0800 calls from any allowance.
As an aside, I've been on Giffgaff PAYG for a year or so now and they've always had free 0800 calls.

I used my PAYG (Tesco sim card) mobile phone to speak to PN CS using the 0800 number and wasn't charged so that's good news, I've been without the landline due to a fault for nearly a week, seems Openreach don't have enough engineers to cover the rural area I live in, they must be busy and it ain't rolling out FTTC here as that is at least ,if at all,nearly 2 years away!!!
Not happy with PN's latest news of increases in line rental etc. when customers are getting poor service from PN's suppliers i.e OR for fixing phone line faults, not PN's fault but they take my money and liase (cough) with OR supposedly.
