woohoo nice savings

I told sky i was not renewing my contract for skytv and cinema 3 weeks ago, they offered me 20% off my package but i said make it 30 and i might stay... they said no.

3 weeks later they contact me and offer me an upgraded bundle and sky cinema for £20 a month for 12 months instead of £50 a month, i wish plusnet was nice like this when it comes to broadband.

Re: woohoo nice savings

Plusnet can't afford to offer discounts like that.

One of their staff years ago said the margins were so low they were only making around 50p profit per month on each connection - thats £6 a year. It's peanuts and in effect they're taking a massive risk to help you stay connected to the world. Infact I have to wonder how they cover the cost of the hardware they send out with margins like that.

Unfortunately the ISP business became a massive rat race to the bottom. Yes it's great for us consumers with ultra cheap broadband / fibre - seriously great but from an ISPs POV it's not so great and their hands are pretty tied discounts wise.

Now it may have changed since years ago - BT wholesale have probably dropped prices a bit and so maybe there is more money in it now but somehow I'm not seeing it.

Re: woohoo nice savings

I wasn't talking about bundled packages - I was just talking about the broadband itself. Thats what I seem to recall James saying years ago.

Re: woohoo nice savings

Line rental, it's how they make their money.

Charging for the broadband service is just money on the side and a sort of 'Brucie Bonus'.

I know where I am, I've been lost here before.

That's why I don't understand why they don't have decent offers for their old customers, even broadband only.

I mean the connection is already there as is the hardware. It's money for old rope.

Re: woohoo nice savings

If you give Sky notice it's usually possible to get up to a 60% discount and £50 to £100 credit out of Sky, they'll sometimes chuck in free broadband too.

That's despite them publicly stating sometime ago the days of offering large discounts were over...

Interesting thread in Kitz forum

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.
