Re: the x factor semi final!

Re: the x factor semi final!

All right, I'll confess I used to watch it years ago but I've gone cold turkey by not watching a single program for 2 years.

Re: the x factor semi final!

apparently the 'x factor' is a special talent or quality... does that mean we can sue ITV for misrepresentation?

Maybe - I've managed 4 years without any adverse effects. In fact I immediately felt a sense of well-being and purpose come back in one huge wave Smiley
Then again, I only used to watch the auditions which were fun back in the day.
I've done my best to wean SWMBO but I occasionally catch her with it on. A strict word or two and the channel is swiftly changed Cheesy

an alleged 11 million, i've always wondered how accurately up-scaling a sample of viewers potrays what everyone is watching.

Re: the x factor semi final!

How are audience figures arrived at anyway?
I was under the impression they were a tool for advertisers.
I seem to recall volunteers would have a device at home that would send in viewing information, is this still in use. Personally I've never ever been stopped in the street and asked my viewing habits, I probably wouldn't tell the truth anyway.
Ah not true!! I was asked once (by email) if I would like to go on the Discovery Channel viewing panel...i didn't, but that's not quite the same thing.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

As a YouGov member I get asked things like this occasionally but not on a regular enough basis to be used as a source for viewing figures.

It's all here http://www.barb.co.uk/about/tv-measurement?_s=4, pretty much you are right Petlew though looks like it's got a bit more sophisticated - but still it's just a small upscaled sample..
