Its always been a joke. I HAVE NEVER played it, I don't gamble, I don't have money to flush down the loo every week.
My MIL plays it every week, I doubt very much if she has ever broken EVEN playing it  Crazy

I never bought lottery tickets at £1 each, now it's £2 I'm twice as likely not to buy one.

And there's also the  raffle  Wink
Be interesting to see what the top prize will be once everything has settled down. My guess is it'll be less than before.

Re: the new National Lottery IS it a rip off?

3 balls = £25 eh?
It only used to be a tenner! Therefore for the extra £1, you're gaining an extra fiver on top?!
Granted i don't like the price increase and I rarely play anyway but considering the extra money..
I think the health lottery is probably taking a lot of money away from camelot and thus they're thinking that by doubling the price, they'll make more. It never ceases to amaze me how many companies think that putting up the price will solve their problems when they're in the ****.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: the new National Lottery IS it a rip off?

I believe the 100% rise is a cunning exploit of the Elasticity of Demand. Some bean counter possibly found the optimal price of a lotto ticket should be £2 - Given lotto fever is a minor symptom of the Gambler's Disease, lottery players will always pay more if they think they might win bigger. Ergo, National Lottery ticket demand is fairly inelastic. Even if 40% of Lotto players quit, ticket revenues will increase by 20%. Hence bigger prizes and bigger handouts for those who run those good causes.
