that should fill the coffers - appalling' driving nets 900 in Essex

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-12443532
More than 900 drivers have been prosecuted for "appalling" driving offences in roadworks on the A13 in Essex since 1 November last year.
Police began the crackdown after drivers flouted laws during roadworks at Sadlers Farm roundabout at Benfleet.
"A further 26 vehicles were found to have serious defects, 11 vehicles were seized because drivers had no insurance or valid licence and four drivers were arrested, two of them for driving while disqualified.

10 a day is a fairly good performance, I wonder how many drivers actually pass the spot daily? Of course much of the rest of Essex must have been denuded of its usual team of traffic plod.

I believe the road works is to return it to a normal roundabout, as currently it is a Magic one

No it's real. It's not the only one either. I think there is one in Swindon.. - hit google images and type in magic roundabout - you will see there are a few around.

for him up there North of England
When you get to the big round thing, you get the choice of going clockwise or anti clockwise, and treat the large thing like a dual road
so if coming south on the A130 and you want to take the London Rd westerly, you go round the mini roundabout and anticlockwise round the big thingy

I've used that quite a few times when going from here (Sussex) to my parents in Suffolk. I actually prefer that roundabout to the M25/A12 roundabout which I've never navigated when going north without being carved up by some idiot who has no idea which lane he should be in. Plus the A130 from the Southend arterial up to Chelmsford is a brilliant piece of road which I've never seen remotely busy whereas the bottom end of the A12 is horrible!
Edit: If they are making it in to a normal roundabout I wonder how long it will be before there is a nasty accident with someone not realising it has changed and trying to go round it anti-clockwise?

As in reply#8  Wink
I've got a feeling that it was the original one and must have be around ( pun) for at least 20 years - one of the exits leads to Leighton Buzzard  Smiley
